Hershey's Harvick

By the way, it was just the timing belt, the wife's car is back on the road. Thanks to those of you that asked.

I mentioned that the Mrs. Smith's car is correct for the season and not just last year's model. I'm afraid not so for all those M&M's and #36 cars; sorta. While I was researching those cars for my latest article (Oct DCD), I noticed that the paint was right for 2002, but the nose was wrong. I thought at first that it was just a bad scale measurement on behalf of Racing Champions. After writing a couple of eMails, it dawned on me to double-check the 2001 paint job. Sure enough, Yellow was on the driver side last year, and Red is this year, but the body was different! Then I checked out Wal-Mart, and all the RC Pontiacs had last year's nose. I couldn't find any Hot Wheels Pontiacs, but the Winner's Circle cars did have the right nose! Now, I just have to get to my favorite DieCast store to check out the high-end cars and see if the owner noticed the same thing. The worse news is the Pedigree paint job is almost identical between this year and last. The Promo has the Homeward Bound sticker and so did last years car, this year's didn't, so that car is definitely a left over.

I also said, "should we be looking for a Pepsi 400 win car at NAPA soon?" I saw it, and just didn't realize what I saw, they are out there! The "Stars & Stripes" paint job won the Pepsi 400, but the packaging doesn't say winner, because they were in NAPA stores before the race. ProMoCo made me aware of the error of my ways. Another reader asked how they can get one of the NAPA displays, when I looked at them, I noticed they would make a very nice display for about a dozen boxed (or loose) cars. Do what I did, ask the guy at the counter or manager, I have 2 stores that said I could have them when the cars were gone (one regular 2002 and one Stars & Stripes).

I found these, just didn't get around to sending out an Alert yet, and a couple of you found them in the meantime too, so I better let you all know. Hershey's is doing another PoPs Promo, this time featuring Kevin Harvick (did anyone get last year's Dale Sr. 1/24 car?). You can get a "Life Size Standee" of him leaning on a Hershey's bar, Poster, T-Shirt, Ball Cap or 1/24 scale DieCast. It's an "Action Performance ARC" Goodwrench #29 for 200 wrappers! Twice as much as last year's #3, but this one touts "Hood/Trunk Opens", I think last years was the low-end model. You can also win a trip to Atlanta's spring race and "race Kevin Harvick at Andretti Speed Lab for a $10,000 prize". You're automatically entered when you get a promo. Wrappers or UPCs from Hershey's, Peter Paul, Reese's, Kit Kat, Rolo, Twizzlers, Caramello, York, Heath and PayDay 1.3 - 4.2 oz bars and shipping and handling. You need the OOF (Official Order Form), so I won't go into any more detail. Get it postmarked by 12/31/02, last year I missed by 2 days and they sent it back (at least I'm 100 UPCs ahead of the game!). I've had reports that this link works: http://www.hersheysracing.com so if you can't find the order form, print your own. It didn't work for me, but sometimes you just have to try a webpage an hour or two later, or sometimes the next day. I've had reports on my site, and it's because the server people are doing things that I have no control over - but hey! That's why it's free!

While we're at it, here's another site that offers an Exclusive PoP Promo: http://www.tide.com/tideRacing/racegear.html One UPC and $3.50 will get you the 2002 #32 Tide Car.

I was able to update the website a little, but I am still working on it. I'm adding a page with promos that have been reported. The one I'm working on is for 2001 in Alert # order (gotta start somewhere). I'm gonna try to make it selectable by Car # order, driver name order, sponsor order, and if different, who the offer is from order. Then I'll have the same sequences for 2002.

I need to get another Alert out soon! There's more out there already, so;

Keep your eyes peeled - they're out there!
