IN THIS ISSUE...

NEWS FLASH!

Stock up on Pain Relievers for the rest of the year, now! Excedrin has a current 2 car offer. #57 Excedrin Migraine and #92 Excedrine PM are attached to several different variations of Excedrin products like Caplets, Extra Strength, etc.

The Bayer Aspirin offer is part of an on-going multi-product 5 car set! And you can get a $4.50 refund too! They are attached to 5 products, Bayer Aspirin, Aleve Pain Reliever, Alka-Seltzer Cold, Heartburn Relief and Original. The refund expires on 1/31/02, but I'm sure the cars will be gone long before that. They are all #33 with different paint schemes for the 5 different products. I'm already 4/5ths of the way to a complete set, and I sent in for my refund already. So far I've only found these at Albertson's in sunny SW FL, and I haven't found the Alka-Seltzer Cold car anywhere.

Speaking of Albertson's, they also carry the RedCell 5 car set. They are one of the few that carry RedCell, and they also have a $2.00 coupon, so car and 8 AA batteries cost only $3.99! The cars are the 50th Win Rusty #2, Goodwrench #3, Kellogg's #5, Havoline #28, & RedCell #75. Some interesting chatter going on about the 50th Win car on a Rusty Wallace fan site (see Links). I've also only found 1 of Dale's cars, quite the flurry of posthumus collectible activity. Long Live #3!

What a great way to start the 2001 NASCAR season, 5 different Dodge cars, 5 cars on RedCells, 2 different Excedrin sponsored cars and the Bayer Consumer Care car with 5 different paint schemes, all as attached product promos. And don't forget the Kellogg's FREE send-in (PoP only, NO S&H) car and/or car AND transporter offer!

I don't remember exactly when these were offered, but a safe guess is around November of 1995. The Circle-K Convenience Stores offered a set of 4 cars for only $.99 each when you filled-up with at least 8 gallons of gas. When you asked, you could get a "free" display case too. The manufacturer of the cars seems to be SMSC, it's stamped on the bottom of the cars and it's also on the Driver Info cards. The other stampings on the chassis are "1995 Monte Carlo used under license" and of course "Made in China", except the Ford; it has no license disclaimer.

The black plastic chassis details are different on the two makes. The Ford chassis parts have more relief, and slightly more detail. For instance the front suspension parts aren't just raised flat areas, they are different sizes and seem to have radiuses. The headers even look like they are equal length performance collectors that twist and turn. The Ford exhausts exit on each side of the car, where the Chevy exhausts both exit on the driver side. The Ford differential is more detailed, but neither chassis shows a pumpkin. The drive shaft looks better on the Ford and there is a Fuel Cell, that is missing on the Chevy. The tires and wheels are black plastic and don't even have lettering, a fairly common detail on collectibles anymore.

The interior has some details that are worth mentioning. The interior is plastic, molded in a single grey color. It is the average detailed interior with full roll cage (with side tubes) and driver net. There is the steering wheel, shifter, and seat. Both makes have a box contraption behind the seat that I imagine is the driver cooling system, and they have molded some items on the passenger side floor that I can't define. Again the Ford car has a little better detailing and it has a fire extinguisher bottle on the tunnel that's missing from the Chevy.

I have to rate the Paint job as poor. Not very detailed, and there is even some smudging and spotting. Only the major sponsors are applied and none of the decals behind the front wheels or lettering on the tires were included. At least they included the driver's name on the roof.

Each car came with a little fact sheet that includes the driver's name, birthday, hometown, number of career starts, wins, top 10 finishes, top 5 finishes, best finish, biggest purse, total $ won, and 1995 team and car.

I mentioned the display case in the Premier Issue, a thin black plastic base and equally thin clear cover that had Circle-K and "Power Pit Stop" vacuum formed in the top and was not what you would call optically clear. The base actually has 4 different levels, and the edges are raised so the cars won't roll off when the top is removed. It does seal well, you can pick it up by the top, and the base will not dettach.

Sorry, Last One!

Like I said in the Premier Issue, I'm trying to get some contacts so I'll know in advance when a promo offer will be released. (Any help here would also be appreciated) I'm also putting together a leaflet that I'm gonna try to get into the hands of the restocking technicians so they can email me when they open a carton of something and see collectible cars. I will forward the text I used if some of you would like to do the same thing, I'm sure different parts of the country get product at different times.

In the next two issues, I will detail some more cars I got over the years in "fill-up" promos. Next will be the 3 car set from Shell, 1 NASCAR, 1 Busch Grand National and the Indy car. The following issue will detail the cars from Mobil and Amoco. As a bonus I will also cover the Duralube promo that came packaged in a special 4 product offer.
